Fake nudity and other deceptions
from the movie "Some Like it Hot"
Here’s a clip from the 1959 movie Some Like it Hot where Marilyn Monroe (as Sugar Kane Kowalczyk) is filmed to make her look as if she’s topless with her nipples covered by pasties.
The scene’s deceptions don’t end there. The two "female" musicians are actually our male heroes, Joe (Tony Curtis) and Jerry (Jack Lemmon), two guys dressing as women so they could join a girl’s band and escape from mobsters. They call themselves Josephine and Daphne, and are friends with Sugar.
The guy waving from the back of the nightclub is millionaire Osgood Fielding III, who’s fallen in love with Jerry (dressed as Daphne) and has sent her a huge flower arrangement.
At the end of the scene, Joe’s writing a new card for the flowers to pretend they’re from a millionaire named Junior, the guy he’s been dressing up as so he can woo Sugar.
Got all that?
If you watch the movie, it’s even better.
The movie is considered by many to be the best comedy ever made.
It is. See it.
