A UPS van tried to circumvent a highway checkpoint near the Mexico border. When the U.S. Border Patrol investigated, they discovered that the van did not contain any parcels, but instead contained 13 undocumented aliens, who had each paid between $5,000 and $8,000 to be smuggled into the U.S.
The van was an accurate replica of a real UPS van, except that a decal on the back door was a little crooked.
Daniel Lopez and Carlos Goens, the driver of another phony truck, were both charged with illegal transportation of aliens.
News reports did not say whether the people trying to be smuggled were found inside large UPS boxes.
