Because they’re afraid the pandas might become too tame if they see humans, research scientists disguise themselves in panda costumes whenever they take their pandas for a medical exam. The scientists at the Wolong panda reserve in Sichuan province in south-west China are raising panda cubs in captivity for eventual release into the wild.
"Come on, little panda, time for your checkup."
This is the kind of thing that would thoroughly traumatize a baby panda.
