Some people hate when advertisements are made to look like real news. They think it’s deceptive. At the Los Angeles Times, they decided to make the newspaper’s entire front page into an ad that looked like the front page. Many readers were initially concerned, since the story’s headline was "MEDIA ICON HIT BY CRIME WAVE," illustrated with a photo of police cars around the NBC building.

"The Times collaborated with NBC to launch ‘Law & Order Los Angeles’ in a big, creative way for the hometown audience. This is an exciting, innovative ad that takes the show’s beloved, 20-year ‘ripped from the headlines’ concept and puts it front and center for Southern California," said the paper’s VP for communications, Nancy Sullivan.
