The two grifters in "Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" by Mark Twain do "most anything that comes handy, so it ain’t work."
What do they do? Print fake leaflets, sell ineffective medicine, preach against alcohol (while they still drink), do hypnosis, read bumps on your skull to explain character, lay on hands to cure disease (including cancer and paralysis), tell fortunes, preach, and, in general, lie to everyone.
