"Mommy, today policeman visited our school…"
In Clearwater, Florida, police received a disturbing call at 2:53 p.m that shots had been fired near Belleair Elementary School.
Of course, police take those kinds of calls very seriously.
The school, which was about to release students for the day, went into lockdown mode. Students were either forced to remain on buses, taken off campus by police or ushered into locked classrooms. Hundreds of parents waiting to get their kids were extremely emotional. Many didn’t know what was happening.
Police surrounded and searched the school room-by-room but found nothing.
After an hour, police figured out that the call was a hoax, and detectives eventually discovered the identity of the caller.
He was seven years old.
The first-grader from the school, who also made other hoax calls to police, was charged with misuse of 911 and released to the custody of a parent.
