Andre Glenn Rogers, the son
A son tried to help his father escape from jail by passing an accomplice a jail-breaking tool.
The son, Andre Glenn Rogers, who is 19 years old, visited a courtroom in Boulder, Colorado and sat behind an inmate, who was a defendant sitting in court.
However, police had gotten a tip and were watching him.
They never saw Rogers pass anything to the inmate.
When Rogers left the courtroom, an officer approached him.
"Why are you here?" said officer Gary Thatcher.
"I'm here to see a friend," said Rogers.
"What's your friend's name?" said Thatcher.
"I don't know," said Rogers.
"You don't know your friend's name?" said Thatcher.
"I can't remember," said Rogers.
"Are you interested in the court case in there?" said Thatcher.
"Where?" said Rogers.
"Courtroom H, where you were just sitting. Do you know the guy you were sitting behind?"
"No," said Rogers.
"What do you have in your pockets?" said Thatcher.
Andre removed a bobby pin.
"I have this," said Rogers.
"You have short hair. Why do you have a bobby pin?" said Thatcher.
"I don't know."
"I put it in my pocket this morning. I thought I might need it," he said.
"We listened to a phone call between you and your father," said Thatcher. "Your father said to bring bobby pins to give to the inmate you were sitting behind."
"He never said that," said Rogers. "He might have said something about bobby pins, but I don't remember. He wanted me to go to court so I could get more comfortable in court when I testified in court for my dad."
Rogers paused again.
"He never said I could get in trouble. "
Andre Glenn Rogers did get in trouble. He was arrested on suspicion of aiding an escape attempt.
The dad he was trying to help, Duane Glenn Rogers, who is 48 years old, is a disbarred insurance attorney who fled to Mexico to avoid prosecution for sexual assault. He was extradited back to Colorado, and is being held on $1 million bond.
He's accused of sexually assaulting a young girl over a five-year period from 2003 to 2008.
