Serious error leads to police shooting

The shots were fired at a body lying in the weeds.

Police in a Kansas City Missouri suburb were called about something lurking near a pond that scared more than the neighborhood children. A resident had placed an object among the weeds near a pond to keep kids away, but someone called, thinking it was real. Police contacted another agency, who said they should shoot it. So police shot it. The first shot to the head did nothing. Neither did the second shot. That's when they discovered the alligator near the pond was made of cement.

A conservation official said there are no real alligators in Missouri because it's too cold.

There is no news about the severity of
injuries to the concrete ornament.
