The technological version
of pissing on the rivals
A subcontractor who set up a wireless network at General Motors headquarters thought it would be funny to program a router to commit a prank when certain web pages were displayed.
Every time one of General Motor’s rivals was mentioned – the rivals being Chrysler, Ford, Toyota or Honda – the router altered the web page by adding the word "sucks" after the rival company name.
The prank was discovered at an event honoring the 100th anniversary of the Chevrolet brand, possibly by one of the 200 journalists who were attending.
GM was not amused, and the router was reprogrammed.
No word on what happened to the subcontractor.
