The Punking of Paris Hilton
In 2006, the artist and activist known as Banksy, along with musician DJ Dangermouse, altered the debut CD from Paris Hilton. They recreated the artwork and music to make satirical comments about her, then placed the 500 spoof copies in UK stores to deceive buyers. Nobody returned the fake CDs. The pranked copies are now collector items.
Some applauded the artist's prank, and others said he was just another celebrity seeking publicity from a more famous celebrity. And still others said "Exactly! That's the point!"
"Banksy" and "DJ Dangermouse" are both pseudonyms.
